63. THE FUTURE OF LIBERAL DEMOCRACY: LESSONS FROM THE BORDERLANDS
Tim Bouverie, Toomas Hendrik Ilves
Thursday 27th June 17:30 (60 Min)
Hiscox Tent
In this unique event, we are delighted to welcome to the festival Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia between 2006 - 2016. Under constant threat of invasion from its neighbour Russia since its independence in 1991, Estonia is now a world leader in digital democracy and cyber-security. In conversation with Tim Bouverie, former President Ilves explores the ways in which Estonia protects and enhances its flourishing liberal democracy and provides a role model to older Western societies facing stagnation and disillusionment within their borders, while fighting rising threats from the outside.
