59. FORTITUDE: D-DAY DECEPTION
Tom Petch, Robert Hutton
Thursday 27th June 15:45 (60 Min)
Hiscox Tent
By 1944, the Allies had become masters of deception and for this they had a number of extraordinarily inventive and brilliant people to thank. While the Germans knew an invasion of Europe was coming, they had no clear understanding of where the landings would take place or when. Operation Fortitude was designed to ensure this state of unknowing continued right up until D-Day. Historian and author Rob Hutton, and writer and film producer Tom Petch, examine how Fortitude was carried out and look at some of the key minds involved, not least the truly exceptional, and still largely forgotten, master of deception, Dudley Clarke.
