25. THE MARY ROSE: UNCOVERING SECRETS OF THE PAST
Alex Hildred, Will Sherman, Andrew Braund
Wednesday 26th June 11:30 (60 Min)
IPGL Stage
In 1982, the world watched with trepidation as the Mary Rose was lifted from the seabed after decades of extensive research and excavation. Alex Hildred was one of the divers who excavated the wreck and uncovered incredible artefacts preserved in the watery depths. In this discussion, Alex talks to Will Sherman, an expert blacksmith and fletcher, and Andrew Braund, an armourer specialising in conservation and restoration, about the importance of experimental archaeology, how it can help us understand how these artefacts were produced and used, and how history in practice can offer new perspectives for research.
